Over the Easter weekend, the Kelmarsh Show in Northamptonshire welcomed thousands of countryside enthusiasts for a weekend of outdoor pursuits, family fun, and culinary discovery, and Eat Wild were there in the thick of it.
🔥 Wild Flavours on the Field
Sarah and Gemima served up a feast of wild-sourced delights and were positively swamped during most of the day on Easter Sunday, where the fair weather brought the families out in droves. We cooked up sample dishes like venison chilli on nachos, pheasant curry, partridge risotto, and sizzling pigeon breasts panfried in wild garlic, which was a real favourite.
As always we talked and talked and talked throughout the show discussing the benefits of eating wild meat in terms of nutrition and sustainability, and persuading people who had been put off eating pheasant by grannies over-hung and overcooked, shoe leather experiences. Exclamations of ‘Oh my god that’s delicious’ echoed across the food area and we definitely had plenty of converts. We were delighted by the antics of the children at the show, who often showed up their parents with their willingness to try something new and our pigeon breasts sold like hotcakes!
We also offered raw cuts including venison and wild boar sausages from Oakland Park, which even though Sarah worried she had brought too many, sold out by 3pm on the first day, with venison burgers and steaks selling out by 10am on Easter Monday. Pigeon went next, followed by pheasant breasts, partridge breasts and pheasant mince respectively.
Sarah marinated partridge breasts in Chimichurri seasoning from the wonderful Spice Kitchen, which were absolutely to die for and will definitely be making it onto the Eat Wild recipe page as soon she can get pictures taken before it is eaten.
With over 500 samples served and everything sold out, we can say that it was a huge success, despite the fairly appalling weather on Easter Monday.
