On April the 24th, the Farming Life Centre in Bakewell hosted a vibrant evening event as part of its Peak Women in Ag series, bringing together women from across the Peak District’s agricultural community. The evening featured a special appearance by Sarah from Eat Wild.
🔥 A Taste of the Wild
Sarah was pretty nervous as it was such a large audience and her first time cooking and talking…alone! She had nothing to fear however, and managed to talk and cook without burning too many things, about Eat Wild and the work they do to develop new markets for game.
She captivated attendees with a showcase of wild-sourced delights, offering samples and sharing insights into the benefits of incorporating game meat into everyday cooking. She handed out Partridge in Blue Cheese on Sourdough Crackers, chatted her way through Marry Me Partridge and then rolled out some Big Mac Pheasant Smash Burgers, which was a clear winner and a very handy recipe for satisfying the craving for something naughty. The recipes were all quick and delicious and underscored the versatility and sustainability of wild game, sparking engaging conversations among the participants and yums of approval.
👩🌾 Empowering Women in Agriculture
The Peak Women in Ag group, established by the Farming Life Centre in March 2024, aims to create a supportive network for women actively involved in agriculture. With a steering group of five dedicated farming women, the initiative organises monthly meetings—alternating between daytime and evening events—to discuss topics relevant to the agricultural community. These gatherings provide opportunities for learning, socialising, and mutual support among women in the sector.
🌟 A Memorable Evening
The collaboration between Eat Wild and Peak Women in Ag exemplifies the synergy between sustainable food initiatives and community-driven agricultural support. Attendees left the event inspired by the culinary possibilities of wild game, after tasting some simple, quick and modern dishes and hopefully Eat Wild will be back again next year.
